3 NETWORKING COMPONENTS:
|
The home network physically consists of three components:
1.) The Service Center is the main hub for all of your Video, Telephone, and
Network connections in your home. The service center is typically located in a central finished or unfinished area within a home.
|
2.) The Information Outlets: located throughout the house, look similar to an electrical outlet. These information outlets provide a location for the homeowner to connect a component to the home network. Examples of these components would be a phone, TV, computer, or fax machine. |
3.) The Cabling: connects the information outlets to the Service Center. The cabling is the backbone of the structured wiring system. Having the appropriate cables installed correctly will allow for future expansion and changes to your existing system. |
These three components that make up a home network are not all that is needed. These components must be connected in a defined pattern. This pattern, sometimes referred to as a star topology, provides each information outlet with its own dedicated cable from the outlet to the service center. In addition to the star topology, the cabling requires proper installation methods to prevent damage to the delicate wire inside or to the signal carried within. The star topology and proper installation methods provide the homeowner with the greatest flexibility, quality, and reliability.
A home network allows the homeowner to integrate the control and operation of: 1) telephones, 2) VCR's, cable television 3) home-office equipment, security systems 4) environmental management systems (ie heating and air and out-door irrigation systems). A computer can share its Internet connection or printer with all of the other computers in the house. A security camera can be viewed from any television in the home. The possibilities are endless and only limited by what components are connected to the system.
